Did you ever wonder why an instructor would cue a pose a certain way or have a question about why your body responds the way it does in asana (postures)? If so this is the weekend for you. Chris Loebsack will guide you through the basics of understanding your body with user friendly gems of applied anatomy. Learning through many different mediums including, lecture, asana practice, model making, demonstration and observation we will explore the boundless potential of the human form to expand when we learn to work mindfully. Each session of the weekend will focus on a particular joint area to gain a better understanding of how motion works with in each joint so we may create a balance of stability and good space while preventing and/or healing from injuries.
This course counts as continuing education for Yoga Instructors. The sessions are open to all students who want to gain insight on their physical form.
Weekend 1
Part 1: Fri-Sun June 6-8th (early registration by 5/23)
Friday: 6pm - 7:30pm
Anatomy in Motion Vinyasa Class (begins with a small lecture)
Free up your joints and access new potential motion. Connect the sweetness of your breath to the power of your physical motion as Chris guides your with new anatomical awareness into your form.
Saturday Session 1: 11am - 1pm
Introduction to Posture and Movement
Embrace your physical form as you learn how to map and describe anatomical motion in the body and empower yourself with knowledge of your skeletal structure and joints actions. Gain the anatomy language tools that will serve your greater understanding of all other anatomy lectures. Topics will include both lecture and experiential aspects; comfortable clothes that you can move in are suggested. This workshop will ignite your passion for the human form.

How does the Body Do THAT? Body physiology basics
Sunday Session 1: 11am - 1pm
Finding the Foundation; Feet and ankles
Build your anatomy awareness from the ground up. Learn the bones, muscles and movement patterns of the feet and ankles. Explore potential range of motion and possible restrictions as applied to the postures for a safe and comfortable practice. By creating a strong understanding of how to open, move, and stabilize the feet we can create dynamic shifts in our postures.
Sunday Session 2: 3pm - 6pm
Happy and Healthy connection to knees and Hips
Learn the bones, muscles, joints of the knees and Hips; how they work together; and what the possible motions are. Enhance you awareness of common injuries with an eye toward prevention. Look at your asana practice through a new lens of understanding as we explore practical yoga practices to support the lower limbs and pelvic girdle.

Anatomy in Alignment Hatha Class (begins with a small lecture)
Take your understanding of anatomy and practice to a new level. Learn some key concepts to move yourself towards alignment and balance.
Saturday Session 1: 11am - 1pm
Hands Down; Safety for Wrists and Elbows
Learn the bones, muscles, joints of the upper extremities; how they work together; and what the possible motions are. Enhance you awareness of common injuries with an eye toward prevention. Look at your asana practice through a new lens of understanding as we explore practical yoga practices to support and stabilize the wrists and elbows.
Saturday Session 2: 3pm - 6pm
Chaturanga, chatur-What? Understanding the Shoulder Joint Complex
The shoulder joint complex is a highly mobile section of the body. The trade off to this greater range of motion is often less stability and increased potential for injury. We will look at the muscular anatomy and potential complications with an eye on injury prevention. Learn how to stabilize the shoulder while maintaining flexiibilty and full range of muscular actions in armbalances, inversions and binds.

Hello Bandhas: Find core support and structural stability
The bandhas are the often most elusive aspect of practice. They shift subtle components of the energetic body that can seem difficult to access. Learn the muscles of the pelvic floor (root lock) abdomen (upward lift). We will explore how and when to engage and or release muscles to create stability, lift and buoyancy, or relaxation, surrender and ease in all our postures.

We got Your Back! Free Your Spine!
Empower yourself with knowledge of your axial skeletal structure and joints actions. Gain awareness of how to move your spine with safety, stability and ease. Exploring anatomy as applied to asana we will explore the potential freedoms or restrictions in the spine. Gain awareness of injury prevention and learn how to work with existing injuries.
